The administrative council of SRG has elected Gilles Marchand as the future general director of the public Swiss TV and radio broadcaster.
The 54-year old will succeed Roger de Weck on October 1, 2017. SRG’s delegates’ council still has to approve the election at its next assembly on November 25, 2016.
Marchand has been director of SRG’s unit Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) serving the French-speaking part of the country since 2010.
De Weck wo will reach retirement age in 2018 will hand over the post after seven years. He argues that a generation change was necessary due to the disruptive changes in the media world.
Update, 25.11.2016: SRG’s delegates’ council has approved the election at its assembly in Bern today.
