Jan Wachtel will join German media company Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland as chief digital content officer and managing director of RTL Interactive on May 1, 2017.
Marc Schröder, currently managing director of RTL Interactive, will take over Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s newly established strategy and diversification division as chief strategy officer at the same time.
Wachtel, currently chief operating officer of the Bild group of companies and also its managing director digital, and Schröder will both report to Anke Schäferkordt, CEO of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland.
As managing director of RTL Interactive, Wachtel will be responsible for the media group’s digital content on all online and mobile platforms. This includes the catch-up services under the TV Now brand, video portal Clipfish, Wetter.de and other digital services.
In the run-up to the realignment, Matthias Büchs, currently in charge of RTL Interactive’s online and mobile division, decided to leave the company at the end of 2016 in order to take on new business challenges.
In his new role as chief strategy officer of Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland’s management team, Schröder will not only head the strategic business development/M&A and smart data divisions. He will also be responsible for the diversification business with particular emphasis on the shareholdings in the Sparwelt and Gutscheine.de e-couponing businesses.
