Amazon will charge €69 instead of €49 per year from new Amazon Prime customers in Germany from February 1, 2017.
Existing Amazon Prime customers will pay the old subscription price of €49 for another year if their subscription is due for renewal before July 1, 2017.
A new monthly subscription to Amazon Prime is available for €8.99 per month. A stand-alone subscription to video-on-demand service (VOD) Amazon Video which is included in Amazon Prime remains available for €7.99 per month, the same fee charged by Amazon’s competitors Netflix and maxdome. Watchever costs €8.99 per month. In connection Amazon Prime, the VOD service only costs €5.75 per month, but users are tied to a 1-year subscription.
The reason for the price hike, according to Amazon, is the continuous expansion of the advantages Amazon Prime offers to meet customers’ demands through which the costs for the provision of the service have risen in the past years.
It’s the second price increase since the introduction of Amazon Prime in Germany nine years ago for €29 per year.
Amazon Prime comprises free premium delivery and an entertainment package with over 15,000 movies and series episodes as well as more than 2 million songs.
