Virgin Media added an additional 92,000 subscriptions in the third quarter, boosting an otherwise lacklustre quarter for parent Liberty Global and producing the best UK Q3 result in seven years.
The cablenet put on 11,000 new video customers following Project Lightning, the multi-million-pound new build programme. It’s expected that between 450,000 and 500,000 new homes will be built during the year. 95,000 new build premises were built in the third quarter taking the Project Lightning build so far this year to 250,000. Over 50% of the build will be fibre to the premises.
TiVo grew by another 67,000 homes.
The relaunch as Virgin TV is now underway with a new user interface. 4G mobile services launched in Ireland in July and will launch in the UK this month.
Virgin Media was also strong in internet connections, putting on an additional 60,000 subs.
The operator now has 5,249,900 customers that between them hold 13,000,200 RGUs. 3,723,500 take a TV service, 4,867,900 broadband and 4,408,800 telephony.
Revenues in the UK and Ireland, Liberty’s largest operation, grew revenues by 3%.
