Moldova has launched its first DTT service, offering eight TV channels to 80% of the population.
According to the country’s Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (MTIC), the first multiplex (A), which has capacity for 15 channels, made its debut on November 1 following the signining on contracts with TV Moldova 1, Prime TV, TVR Moldova, Canal 2, Canal 3, Publica TV, N4 and Accent TV.
Seven other broadcasters will licences to broadcast on the multiplex – Agro TV, Jurnal TV, TV7, ITV, Regional TV, Super TV and CTC – will be added to the pacakge as soon as they also enter into contracts.
Moldova is using the DVB-T2 MPEG-4 standards for its new service, which effectively replace the three terrestrial channels viewers have until now been able to receive.
It is expected to compete the transition to digital broadcasting by December 31, 2017.
