Poland’s fifth multiplex should be allocated to DVB-T2 services, in the view of Witold Kolodziejski, the head of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).
Speaking in a fireside chat at PIKE 2016, he added that there would be two options for the mux, namely placing the best channels (HD) on it or opening it up to completely new services. He also said that DVB-T2 should be used better services, not necessarily paid-for ones. Interestingly, he in addition said that he was not a supporter of launching more multiplexes.
Commenting on the eighth multiplex, he said it was TVP’s decision as to whether it would place channels on it. However, the broadcaster was taking the issue seriously and using sound judgment.
Asked about must carry, Kolodziejski did not offer an opinion, saying he was open to hear the views of industry players.
Kolodziejski offered support for net neutrality and the eventual merging of KRRiT and UKE into a single regulator along the lines of the UK’s Ofcom.
