The cost of pay-TV services in Russia is lower than in all major developed and developing countries in the world.
Quoting a report by Telecom Daily, Vedomosti reports that as of Q3 this year ARPU amounted to $2.49, placing it in 19th place behind India, where it stood at $3.3.
The US occupied top spot with $103.7, followed by Australia ($67) and Canada ($66).
The average ARPU for the 20 countries with the highest GDP was $29.6.
By law, Russian pay-TV operators are required to provide their customers with over 20 popular TV channels free of charge.
Furthermore, subscription fees for satellite and analogue cable services remain very low.
For instance, Tricolor TV, the country’s leading DTH platform, charges only R100 (€1.45) a month for its basic package.
