The Croatian incumbent Hrvatski Telekom (HT) expects to invest HRK2 billion (€266.2 million) on its fibre-optic network by 2020.
Speaking at the ETIS Community Gathering 2016 in Zagreb and quoted by Poslovni and TPortal, Davor Tomaskovic, the company’s CEO, added that HT is an absolute technology leader in Croatia. It was one of the first telecom companies in Europe to introduce a 4G network and to migrate users to an all-IP environment.
In addition, it now offers the fastest broadband speeds in the country and is playing a leading role in the development of smart cities.
However, Tomaskovic also said that conditions were challenging for HT in what is a saturated and heavily regulated market.
HT is the county’s leading private investor but faces big obstacles, such as very expensive building permits, which can be removed with a little courage by the country.
