Austrian cable operator UPC has started offering multimedia home gateway Horizon to its customers.
UPC parent company Liberty Global already deploys Horizon through its local cable subsidiaries in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland and the Czech Republic. The box which combines linear TV, on-demand content, apps and games is, thus, now available in all three German-speaking markets served by Liberty Global.
In Austria, customers will receive the second generation of the box featuring upgraded infrastructure behind the interface and a new design. The HD user interface, for example, contains more visual elements such as posters and preview images in the TV and on-demand section enabling easier and faster navigation through the menu and the around 7,000 on-demand titles, according to UPC.
If requested, Horizon can provide personal recommendations for TV programmes, movies and on-demand content.
With the pause function, users can stop the currently running TV show and continue watching it later. The 500GB hard-disk enables recordings of up to four TV programmes broadcast at the same time.
With the mobile TV app Horizon Go, viewers can watch up to 100 TV channels on their tablet, smartphone or laptop. They can also use the app to access the on-demand line-up and set up TV recordings on the Horizon box in the living room while on the go.
