Chromecast Ultra will be priced at EUR69 or £69 ($69 suggesting the falling pound is having an effect). The dongle-style device will plug into the TV HDMI port with users then streaming video through iPhones, iPads, Android devices and laptops.
The Chromecast Ultra will be released in November in the US, and will be available in 15 countries around the world.
In addition to 4K the device will also be able to stream HDR content. It will be up against the recently announced Roku products and Amazon Fire.
Google says there are thousands of cast-enabled apps available for streaming. There is also a built-in Ethernet connection for those who need to connect directly to broadband.
Chromecast Ultra is the second upgrade to Google’s streaming device that first launched in 2013. The announcement was already expected last month.
In June IHS estimated thar Google Chromecast has finally managed to outship rival Apple TV. It delivered 3.2 million Chromecast units compared to 1.7 million units from Apple.
