ARD and ZDF will be able to show all games of the European Football Championship 2020 live following an agreement reached by the German public broadcasters’ sports rights agency SportA with European football association UEFA.
Financial details have not been disclosed.
The Euro 2020 will take place in June and July 2020 for the first time in 13 European countries at the occasion of the tournament’s 60-year anniversary.
Three matches will take place in Munich including the quarter final while the semi-finals and the final game will take place in London’s Wembley stadium. The further match locations are Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest, Dublin, Glasgow, Copenhagen, St. Petersburg and Rome.
Like in 2016 in France, 24 teams will determine the European Champion in 51 games. The German team can play up to seven matches.
The agreement ARD and ZDF concluded with UEFA also covers the internet and social media platforms. Furthermore, ARD’s radio channels have the possibility to broadcast all games.
The Euro 2020 qualifier games will be shown by commercial broadcaster RTL.
