Mehmet Ali Yalcindag, the coordinator of Turkey’s Dogan Media Group, has resigned from his position in order to avoid “damaging the credibility of the group”.
According to Hurriyet, the move follows allegations in social media that Yalcindag repeatedly maintained correspondence with Berat Albayrak, the minister of energy and the son-in-law of Turkey’s president Tayyip Erdogan, and the CEO of the rival Sabah newspaper, Serhat Albayrak, who is also the brother of the energy minister.
Yalcindag is the son-in-law of of Aydin Dogan, the honorary chairman of Dogan Media Group.
The group is one of the leading media companies in Turkey and its broadcast interests include Kanal D and CNN Türk.
Outside Turkey, it operates Kanal D Romania and Euro D, a channel aimed at Turkish expats living in Europe.
