The Czech public broadcaster Ceske Televize (CT) has yet to decide whether it will continue to use Astra to distribute its channels.
Speaking to Rozhlas.cz, Ivo Ferkl, the broadcaster’s CTO, said that the selection of the service provider has not yet been completed.
While price is important, so too is the number of viewers who receive signals from a particular position (Astra 3B is located at 23.5 degrees East).
Furthermore, the provider must offer a quality service and the costs to viewers for continuing to receive CT channels should be minimal, given that these channels are included in satellite operators’ basic packages.
CT plans to end broadcasting in DVB-S and move to DVBS-2, using MPEG-4, in mid-November.
