The pay-TV market in Ukraine has the potential to grow from its current level of 4 million to between 8-10 million subscribers within the next two to three years.
In a summary of the third international Pay-TV in Ukraine conference, Volia, the country’s leading cable operator, adds that this was the prediction of experts speaking at the event.
It adds that the hottest topics of discussion were self-regulation and the need to create a high-quality legal framework for the industry.
There was also an acknowledgement, among both national and international speakers, that the main obstacle to its development of pay-TV is piracy. To combat it, the state and businesses need to combine their efforts.
Participants also said they expected Ukraine’s parliament to amend legislation, including the new Law on Audiovisual Media Services, in the next few months.
