The Ukrainian president has signed into law legislation that impacts directly on Russian TV and radio programmes distributed in the country.
Amendments to the broadcast law, which were originally passed by parliament on May 17 and signed by the chairman of the supreme council three days later, have excluded such programmes from the quota of European product required to be offered by Ukrainian (except satellite) broadcasters.
Under the new rules, at least 70% of their weekly output such be of European, US and Canadian origin, with at least 50% Ukrainian.
European productions should be from states or entities that have ratified the European Convention on Transfrontier Television.
