Austrian public broadcaster ORF has launched a multiscreen streaming platform for classical music lovers.
Fidelio offers a linear 24hour streaming channel, live concerts from concert halls, opera houses and open air venues, a video-on-demand service and an editorial section with background information on artists, orchestras, conductors, composers and classical music institituions.
ORF’s partner in the OTT venture is Unitel, the German production firm specialising in classical music. The Munich-based company founded and headed by Jan Mojto also operates pay-TV music channel Classica.
The first live transmission will be a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra playing Brahms, Debussy and Ravel on September 25, 2016.
Fidelio is accessible directly via the internet, through smartphone/tablet apps (iOS/Android) an on smart TV sets using Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Airplay or Chromecast.
A subscription costs €14.90 per month. The service can be tested free of charge for seven days.
