Russia’s leading pay-TV operator Tricolor TV has launched a satellite internet service in partnership with Eutelsat Networks.
Available within the coverage area of the Express AMU1 (Eutelsat 36C) satellite, it offers download and upload speeds of up to 40Mbps and 12Mbps respectively.
Local reports say the service is not cheap – the minumum tariff, for 1Gb, is R275 (€3.8) a month – and therefore unlikely to secure a large number of customers.
They add that this will be Tricolor TV’s second attempt at a satellite internet service, with the first, trialled in 2010, not having been commercially launched.
Express AMU1 went into service earlier this year and Tricolor has worked with Eutelsat for over a decade.
