The man in charge of content for Deutsche Telekom has been giving his views on the changing marketplace.
Peter Kerckhoff said Telekom feels content gives an endless opportunity to differentiator. “If you were listening to Vodafone this morning they said they would be relaunching their product with features we already have and it will be the same with Unitymedia next year.
Kerckhoff believes there has been lot of change in the proposition, including the provision of premium content within lower packages, rather than requiring buy through. Kerckhoff said a similar structure was in place with Sky.
He admitted there were a couple of ‘partners’ that Telekom did not have available. “You have everything that counts and then you try to get something different that the others don’t have.”
One such differentiator is in music where Telekom has added the Apple Music service, giving its subscribers a six month taster, rather than the usual three.
He predicted further changes in the distribution of content and said that Amazon would move closer to becoming a content provider.
