The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has expressed an interest in investing in Telekom Srbija.
Speaking to RTS and quoted by SEEbiz and Tanjug, Suma Chakrabarti, the bank’s president, said that “the whole region of the Western Balkans is a priority for the EBRD, and Serbia is the largest economy in the region and is therefore a very important priority in the region.
He added that was why he had devoted so much time to visiting Serbia and meeting with ministers, as well as the pricate sector. Besides Telekom Srbija, the EBRD is interested in investing in companies in the banking sector.
Chakrabarti said that the EBRD has invested over €4.4 billion in 200 projects in Serbia to date and expects to invest €450 million this year.
As previously reported in Broadband TV News, this is not the first time the EBRD has expressed an interest in the Serbian incumbent.
The privatisation of Telekom Srbija was expected to take place last year.
Although it was opposed by the public and ultimately fell through, it still appears to be on the agenda.
