Sky has announced the investment of €4 million in Molotov, the French over-the-top video platform, run by Jean-David Blanc, founder of AlloCiné, and Pierre Lescure, founder of Canal+.
The investment is part of a larger Molotov financing round and is the latest in a series of Sky investments in innovative start-up companies.
Molotov’s basic tier is free of charge and comprises 35 channels, including all channels that are available on the nation’s digital terrestrial network TNT. In addition, an extended tier is available, for €9.99.
It went live in July this year and is amongst other means available via Apple TV, the only French broadcaster to be available through the Cupertino box.
The platform also plans to offer premium channels from Canal+ and Bein Sports, but no details are yet available. The plan is to offer these channels without a contract, to be available on a month-by-month basis.
Apart from streaming live channels, viewers can also re-start a programme from the beginning as well as catch-up older broadcasts.
