Russia’s MTS sold five times as may receivers for its satellite TV service in the first six months of this year as it did in the corresponding period in 2015.
Quoting the company’s spokesman Dmitry Solodovnikov, ComNews reports that this was done by offering customers high quality content and operating the DTH operation as a separate business.
It adds that the greatest number of connections for the service are in the Far East, Siberia, Moscow, Moscow and Moscow region, as well as the Volga region. At the same time, the best growth rates are beingh seen in the Northwest, the Volga region, Central and South.
Indeed, the growth rates in the central regions of Russia, excluding Moscow and Moscow region, increased nine-fold.
Data produced by TMT Consulting shows that MTS’s satellite TV service accounted for 0.3% of the DTH market in H1 this year.
Tricolor TV was in first place (75.4%), followed by Orion Express (18.2%) and NTV-Plus (6.1%). In the pay-TV sector, MTS, which also operates an IPTV service, claimed 7%.
The other leading players were Tricolor TV (29.6%), Rostelecom (21.7%), Orion Express (7%) and ER Telecom (7%).
