Deutsche Telekom launches mobile TV streaming service

September 2, 2016 10.38 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Entertain to go MobileGerman telco Deutsche Telekom has launched a mobile TV streaming service offering around 40 channels for smartphones and tablets including all major German public and commercial channels.

Each user can register up to four devices for Entertain TV mobil including computers and laptops accessing the service through a web browser interface.

The offer which also comprises a cloud recorder for personal TV recordings is available to customers of Telekom’s IPTV platform Entertain TV for €6.95 per month. Telekom customers with a fixed-line tariff for telephony/internet (Magenta Zuhause) can sign up for €9.95 per month, a Telekom spokesman told Broadband TV News. The first month is free of charge.

For Telekom customers signed up for the Magenta Eins tariff which includes broadband internet, fixed-line and mobile telephony, Entertain TV mobil remains free of charge permanently. Non-Telekom customers can’t access the service, explained the spokesman.

Entertain TV mobil replaces the former mobile TV service Entertain to go which was only available to Entertain TV customers. Through the deployment to wider customer circles, Telekom increases competition with the mobile TV streaming offers of internet TV providers such as Zattoo, Magine TV and TV Spielfilm live.

Telekom has also expanded Entertain TV: The catch-up TV services of European cultural channel Arte and commercial broadcast group Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland form now part of the IPTV platform. RTL’s TV Now portal offers programmes from RTL, VOX, RTL II, Super RTL, RTL Nitro, RTLplus and n-tv up to 30 days after the TV broadcast, in Arte’s case even up to 90 days.

Through the Replay function, viewers will in future be able to directly select a programme in the EPG and instantly watch it. The new PreTV function will make it possible to watch programmes ahead of their TV broadcast if they are already available on-demand.
