Freesat has delivered Saorview of a new mobile app that provides the terrestrial platform with a website TV guide and Spotlight recommendation service.
It’s part of an agreement between Freesat and the Irish public service broadcaster RTE.
Richard Waghorn, RTÉ chief technology officer said “It’s exciting to see the Saorview brand brought to life through Freesat’s technology. Saorview customers looking for an enhanced free TV service will enjoy a taste of what’s to come when the Saorview Connect box launches.”
Freesat has its own successful TV guide app, which has been downloaded over 750,000 times, that has been developed for RTE as part of Freesat’s connected TV guide solution, Metaphor.
Matthew Huntington, chief technology officer at Freesat, said: “Operators are looking for ways to deliver more compelling TV solutions to viewers and our Metaphor solution provides a tried and tested approach. Freesat’s latest delivery for RTÉ will give Irish audiences the chance to experience a connected TV service that rivals pay TV providers.”
Users can plan their viewing with help from editorial recommendation service Spotlight that showcases the best programming for the week ahead.
Remote record and IR functionality will be added in the coming months,
This latest innovation forms part of the ongoing Saorview Connect project; which will see Freesat deliver an end-to-end solution powered by the Metaphor platform.
