Providers of pay-TV and broadband services in Romania face the prospect of paying a new tax equivalent to 1% of their monthly revenues.
Mediafax reports that the country’s Ministry of Culture has published draft amendments to an ordinance that would introduce such a tax, which would also be aimed at cinemas and telephony providers.
In the case of TV services, it would be applied irrespective of technology used, including terrestrial, analogue or digital cable, fibre-optic and satellite.
All ISPs would also be affected, whether they provide fixed or mobile internet services.
Mediafax notes that this will be the third time that Corina Suteu, the minister of culture, has attempted to introduce what is an emergency ordinance, governing the rules of cinematography, in the country.
