Cable operator UPC will provide around 300,000 internet customers in Switzerland and Austria with its new-generation modem Connect Box free of charge.
The device which customers will gradually receive in exchange for their older modems by the end of 2017 improves the Wi-Fi reach and enables data rates of up to 1Gbps.
The Liberty Global subsidiary serves a total of more than 3 million households in Switzerland and Austria.
“The satisfaction of our existing customers is our top priority. With the Connect Box, we are giving them an even better Wi-Fi experience,” Ivo Hoevel, UPC’s chief marketing and products officer, said in Vienna.
Liberty Global is investing a significant amount in the modem roll-out in Austria and Switzerland, Hoevel added. “This important investment clearly shows that we value our customers’ loyalty and are investing in our relationship with them.”
More than 160,000 customers will receive the Connect Box in Switzerland this year while the exchange will commence in Austria in 2017.
Liberty Global’s German subsidiary Unitymedia has been offering the Connect Box for new customers since December 2015.
