Virgin Media has begun the rollout of a major software update for its existing TiVo boxes.
It comes ahead of the launch of the new Liberty Global V6 unit later this year. In the UK market this will run on a TiVo UI.
The update includes a series of new features designed to help search, find and save content. Included is Series Link+ that allows cross-platform linking of both linear channels and on demand services. When set, Series Link+ will record both an entire series and search for related episodes on demand and place them in a single folder (My Shows).
David Bouchier, Chief Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media, said: “This update gives our box an even more intuitive intelligence while, crucially, retaining many of the familiar features we know our customers love. Series Link+ takes the convenience of finding and saving series to the next level by breaking down the divisions between traditional TV and on demand programming.”
On demand programmes will now appear as image-based tiles and subtle changes such as changing channel names to channel logos help to improve the functionality and access to the best programmes.
The ability to pick up at the point a recording is stopped is extended to on demand and it’s also possible to bookmark any programme on linear TV or on demand.
