German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will roll out the new receiver Sky+ Pro in Germany and Austria with the launch of its Ultra HD offer in autumn 2016.
The UHD box contains a 1 terabyte hard-disc enabling viewers to pause, rewind and record the currently running programme. It offers space for up to 185 hours of HD recordings as a personal archive. The HDR-capable receiver will become available to existing and new cable and DTH satellite customers in autumn 2016.
Sky Deutschland also confirmed that its Ultra HD service – as reported by Broadband TV News – will launch with live football coverage, spread across two channels: Sky Sport Bundesliga UHD will transmit one game per Bundesliga match day in the new standard while Sky Sport UHD will show selected games of the UEFA Champions League in Ultra HD.
Further live sports as well as movies and series on Sky On Demand will follow.
All Sky subscribers signed up for the Premium HD package will have 12 months free access to Sky Ultra HD. They only require an Ultra HD TV set and the Sky+ Pro receiver.
