Slovakia’s leading broadcaster TV Markiza will no longer distribute its channels terrestrially from the beginning of 2017.
Medialne reports that the CME-owned company has decided not renew a contract with the national transmission company Towercom that expires at the end of this year.
Instead, it will focus on satellite, cable and IPTV distribution, thereby giving viewers access to HD, HbbTV and other services.
Currently Markiza’s flagship channel and Doma are distributed by country’s second DTT multiplex, while the first one includes Dajto in its line-up.
Only around 10-15% of Slovak homes use DTT as their main TV source.
