Sky Deutschland adds ZDF and Arte to Roku streaming box

August 12, 2016 08.45 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ZDFmediathek ScreenshotOwners of the Sky Online TV Box can now access the catch-up TV portals from German public broadcaster ZDF and European cultural channel Arte directly on their TV set.

German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has taken the services aboard its streaming box as apps.

Arte’s catch-up portal offers documentaries, movies, series and concerts up to 90 days after their TV broadcast in HD quality while ZDFmediathek contains around 35,000 videos and programmes like its Olympic Games coverage with additions live-streams.

The Sky Online TV Box was developed in partnership with US streaming provider Roku and upgrades each TV set with an HDMI slot to a smart TV model.

Besides the catch-up services from ZDF and Arte, the users of the streaming box can access video, news, music and lifestyle apps including Tagesschau, Deezer, Red Bull TV, Vevo, GoPro and YouTube. Sky Deutschland wants to expand the app line-up in the next months.

The box also enables access to Sky Deutschland’s OTT platform Sky Online which will be relaunched as Sky Ticket at the beginning of the next Bundesliga season and makes pay-TV operator’s movies, series and sports offer available without a regular subscription.
