German telco Deutsche Telekom has won 41,000 new customers for its domestic IPTV platform Entertain in Q2 2016, increasing the total subscriber number to 2.78 million.
The growth has been slower than in previous quarters: In Q1 2016, 53,000 new Entertain customers were added, in Q2 2015 even 62,000.
Telekom hopes for a boost with its new ice hockey channel on which the company will transmit all games of Germany’s domestic ice hockey league Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) via TV, PC, tablet and smartphone live from the 2016/17 season.
Telekom acquired the TV rights from DEL in January 2016 for the next four seasons.
The offer launching on September 1, 2016 will be available free of charge to all Telekom subscribers and internet customers in the first 24 months; it will cost €4.95 per month afterwards. All other sports fans can sign up from €9.95 per month.
