German cable operator Unitymedia has won 42,000 new customers for its multimedia platform Horizon in Q2 2016.
The total Horizon customer figure rose to 527,000, corresponding with 8% of the TV customer base.
Horizon now offers on-demand content from 40 TV channels. Through mobile service Horizon Go, viewers can stream over 100 TV channels on smartphones and tablets including 39 HD channels.
The fixed-line high-speed internet service with 400Mbps is now available to three quarters of all households served by Unitymedia.
The advertising campaign for its fast internet access has resulted in 80% of new internet customers signing up for data rates of 120Mbps or more. In Q1 2016, the share amounted to 50%.
With around 80GB per month, Unitymedia customers used up more than twice as much data volume than the average German household in Q2 2016.
The number of internet customers rose in Q2 2016 by 61,000 to 3.2 million while the number of telephony customers also increased by 61,000 to 3.0 million. In total, the Liberty Global subsidiary had 7.1 million customers on June 30, 2016 of which 6.4 million subscribed to classic cable TV.
