Jacek Kurski, the president of the Polish public broadcaster TVP has been dismissed from his post by the country’s National Media Council (RMN).
However, there was a period of confusion in the hours following the decision on August 2, with a number of reports suggesting he would leave immediately.
Some clarity was subsequently restored when the RMN said that Kurski would in fact remain in post until the outcome of a competition to chose his successor was known.
Moreover, he would be allowed to participate in that competition.
Preparations for the contest would begin this month, with the outcome being known by October 15 at the latest.
Kurski has been president of TVP since the beginning of this year and overseen far-reaching and at times highly criticised changes at the broadcaster.
