Amazon will shortly launch its Prime Video service in India, having introduced Prime in 100 cities in the country on July 26.
In the company’s latest set of results, Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com, said that Prime members in India would have “exclusive access to Amazon Original Series and Movies — including original content featuring top Indian creators and talent”.
He added: “The team in India is inventing at a torrid pace, and we’re very grateful to our Indian customers for their welcoming response.”
Speaking in a call with the media, Amazon’s CFO Brian Olsavsky said the company plans to spend twice as much on video in the second half of 2016 as in the corresponding period last year.
Amazon’s net sales increased 31% to $30.4 billion in the second quarter, compared with $23.2 billion in Q2 2015.
Net income was $857 million in the second quarter, or $1.78 per diluted share, compared with $92 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, in Q2 2015.
