iPlayer achieves best ever June

July 27, 2016 11.05 Europe/London By Julian Clover

The BBC’s ‘Summer of Sport’ has led to the best ever June on the BBC iPlayer.

Events such as the Wimbledon Tennis championships and the UEFA Euro 2016 football tournament led to 290 million requests across TV and radio.

This represents an increase of 6 per cent on May and a rise of 39 million requests on June 2015.

Live viewing grew to 11% of all TV requests, the highest level since mid-2014.

The Home Nations football match between England and Wales at Euro 2016 was the most requested programme in June.

Taking place during office hours it generated 2.8 million requests.
