Three months after screens went black Al Jazeera plans to return to the United States.
Al Jazeera America closed on April 30, 2016, the broadcaster saying that “the economic landscape of the media environment has driven its strategic decision to wind down its operations and conclude its service.”
At this point the broadcaster left the US broadcast market altogether, only available through phones and tablets, but now a memo seen by Reuters suggests the channel is to attempt to restore the connection.
When Al Jazeera America launched in August 2013, it took over the 60.8 million cable homes that had been the property of Al Gore’s Current TV.
This time it in talks with cablenets with a plan to launch a digital service in September.
