ZDF to show first Ultra HD production

July 20, 2016 13.30 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Mythos Wolfskind - Mogli und die wilden Kinder ZDF Jens MonathGerman public broadcaster ZDF will show its first documentary completely produced in Ultra HD/4K on September 25, 2016 at 19.30 CET.

European cultural channel Arte will broadcast the programme in advance on September 24, 2016 at 20.15 CET.

The documentary Mythos Wolfskind – Mogli und die wilden Kinder focuses on the question whether it’s possible that a child can survive outside civilisation – without parental care, totally on its own or in companion with animals.

As neither ZDF nor ARTE transmit in Ultra HD, the TV broadcast via cable, satellite, IPTV and DTT will be in HD and SD resolution.

The Ultra HD version will be offered as a download on the website of ZDF’s documentary series Terra X as well as through its HbbTV portal on smart TV sets: By pressing the red button on 4K TV sets, the documentary can be watched in Ultra HD format within catch-up service ZDFmediathek.

For viewers with virtual reality (VR) glasses, ZDF will also provide 360° footage in 3D on its VR website.
