Britain’s new prime minister, Teresa May, has sacked culture secretary John Whittingdale.
Mr Whittingdale, who had been overseeing changes to the governance of the BBC and a controversial privatisation plan for Channel 4, confirmed the news on Twitter.

An announcement on the new culture secretary is expected later on Thursday.
