Stoneroos brings OTT service Knippr to Apple TV

July 13, 2016 06.30 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Knippr_Apple_TV4Stoneroos has developed the Apple TV4 application for T-Mobile’s Dutch OTT service Knippr.

Knippr has just added Apple TV4 and Google Chromecast capability on the OTT service, which was rolled out last month.

After login the user enters his personal TV environment, where he can manage all his devices and channels. With Knippr’s a la carte offer, channels can easily be added and cancelled on a monthly basis.

The Knippr Apple TV4 application accommodates watching live television and TV programmes OTT up to seven days back. This makes Knippr (one of) the first in the world that enables a Live TV service of this nature on Apple TV.

Hilverum-based Stoneroos, who was already responsible for the ‘My Knippr’ section and the Web TV application, developed the Apple TV version.

The User Interface (UI) is completely in line with Apple TV GUI guidelines. It is intuitive, and simple to use. Through the EPG viewers can choose the programme they want to watch, every programme can also be paused or watched from the beginning. The TV guide covers 14 days, seven days into the past, and seven days into the future. The search functionality enables the user to search through all past and future programmes.

Knippr EPG

The design of the EPG is unique, and differs from all the guides that are based on a gridview, with the programmes arranged in blocks. The patented Stoneroos EPG shows the channels side to side, as has been proven to be a success in earlier EPG’s made by Stoneroos. While scrolling up and down within a channel, all other channels jump to the same time slot, providing a good overview of all programmes that are broadcast at the same time.

“Due to a lack of computing power in older set-top boxes this was not possible, but with the Apple TV4 box this is finally a reality, bringing the potential to dethrone the old fashioned gridview,” claims Stoneroos.
