Sky D selects Inside Secure for OTT on Apple TV 4

July 12, 2016 23.02 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Sky Online Apple TVGerman pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has selected player technology from Inside Secure, a French provider of embedded security solutions for mobile and connected devices, for the rollout of its OTT service Sky Online on Apple TV 4.

The move enables the users of Apple’s streaming box to watch movies, series, children’s programmes, documentaries and live sports on their TV set directly through the internet without the need for cable or satellite. The subscription can be cancelled monthly.

“Sky Deutschland encourages compelling and original new content creation. For this, robust content protection is essential,” said Mauro Di Pietro Paolo, senior vice-president of information technology at Sky Deutschland. “For our Sky Online deployment for Apple TV, we chose Inside Secure’s secured player to meet our time-to-market and robustness requirements.”

Andrew McLennan, executive vice-president of Inside Secure’s mobile security division, added: “Inside Secure secured player is the leading solution on the market today with more than 120 million people currently using it on more than 100 different deployments. With the addition of Apple TV on Sky Deutschland’s newest application, we demonstrate how we successfully evolve our products to meet the dynamic requirements of movie studios and service providers.”

Inside Secure’s player solutions are fully approved by movie studios and other content owners, according to the company. Its DRM component supports mainstream DRM schemes including Microsoft PlayReady, Google Widevine and Verimatrix ViewRight Web.
