Liberty Global’s Dutch net Ziggo will launch an app called TV Italiano for the Horizon media box to distribute a bouquet of Italian langauge channels.
The new app will consist of live streams of Rai Uno, Rai Due, Rai Tre, Rai Storia, Rai News 24 and Mediaset Italia, and will become available this September.
Earlier this year Ziggo launched a similar app, TV Française, which offers eight French language channels.
By distributing linear channels via an app on the Horizon media box, the operator can circumvent capacity issues on the network by making a number of channels only available on an on-demand basis via an app.
“In the near futire, we we will be able to offer more (foreign) channels using this innovation and meet more customer needs,” said Peter Dörr, Chief Commercial Officer, Ziggo.
