Dutch incumbent telecom operator KPN has launched a 4k/Ultra HD pilot with 1,000 trial customers.
Part of the 4k/Ultra HD programming consists of the 4K coverage of the Euro 2016 football championship, as broadcast by Belgian public broadcaster VRT.
The 4k offer also includes an Ultra HD music loop with videos from Dutch music channel Xite.
Also, programming in 4k from SPI’s Funbox 4k/Ultra HD is included in the offer. The Funbox chanenl is already available in Luxemburg and the Czech Republic.
Berk Uziyel, executive director SPI International/Filmbox, said earlier about the Funbox 4k/Ultra HD channel: “SPI is focusing on making as much native 4k content as possible available via this channel, and we are only showing those programmes that have a high production value and can deliver outstanding visual highlights for the viewers.”
KPN said it is in talks with other broadcasters that offer 4k content.
