Sky Deutschland to build sports broadcast centre

June 16, 2016 11.07 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Sky Deutschland FirmensitzGerman pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will build a sports programming broadcast centre next to its corporate headquarters in Unterföhring near Munich.

In The Cube, two studios of 600 m² and 250 m² as well as an additional new surface of 250 m² for Bundesliga coverage will initially be created. In total, the broadcast centre will offer 1,700 m² of space with the investment amounting to a two-digit million EUR figure, according to Sky Deutschland.

From summer 2017, Sky’s complete live sports programming will be produced in the new building covering, for example, the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, EHF Handball Champions League, golf, tennis and Formula 1 as well as content for digital platforms and for Sky Sport News HD.

Through the new facilities, more than 40 new full-time jobs as well as 50 to 80 positions for freelancers will be created in the areas of studio production and playout.

Construction works will commence on June 20, 2016. The first trials are planned for June 2017 with the first live productions to air from the venue in July 2017.
