Canal+ Group faces more problems after la Société des journalistes voted in favour or a motion of no confidence in bosses of news channel iTélé.
The union has been angered by proposals by new channel boss Serge Nedjar not to renew the contract of up to 40 of its members. There are also concerns at the introduction of what staff perceive as advertorial into the schedules.
Quoted in Le Monde, Ravanello Olivier, president of the LDS said: “There is a risk of damaging the image of independence of the chain, which also makes its value”.
In a statement Canal+ Group said it noted the motion, but reaffirmed its support for the direction of the chain.
“The Group notes that iTélé faces several years in a continuous deterioration of its financial situation with losses for 2015 close to €25m. With the recent passage LCI free and the forthcoming establishment of public news channel, the competitive position of news channels in France becomes very difficult.”
Canal said it intended to strengthen the iTélé brand by further integrating with Canal.
