Together with its partner Cisco, German cable operator Unitymedia will unveil its Gigasphere, as it calls the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, at upcoming cable, satellite and broadband trade fair ANGA COM 2016.
The Liberty Global subsidiary will demonstrate the performance capabilities of its HFC (hybrid fibre coaxial) network infrastructure using DOCSIS 3.1 which allows downstream speeds of up to 10Gbps and upstream speeds of up to 1Gbps.
At Unitymedia’s stand in hall 10.2 (booth B11), visitors can surf the net, employ apps and try out virtual reality gaming at a download rate of up to 2Gbps as part of a live preview.
“DOCSIS 3.1 is a key building block for the leading cable operators. We are delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate this technology together with Unitymedia on the basis of our cBR8 CMTS platform,” said Jürgen Spranger, technical solutions architect with Cisco. “The new cable standard is a fascinating technology, and we can look forward to some exciting new developments in the next few years.”
