German commercial broadcaster RTL has acquired an extensive rights package containing qualifier games of the national German football team for World and European Championships.
The new TV contract with UEFA covers the exclusive live rights for 28 of the 40 tendered German qualifier games for the Euro 2020 and the World Cup 2022.
RTL will also show all test matches preceding the European and World Championships as well as the new national team competition UEFA Nations League. The agreement also comprises extensive rights for highlight coverage of all further qualifier games without the German team. Financial details have not been disclosed.
In July 2013, RTL already secured the TV rights for qualifier games of the national German team for the Euro 2016 in France and the World Cup 2018 in Russia.
The German team can be seen next time on RTL on September 4, 2016 when the broadcaster will transmit the first of a total of ten qualifier games for the World Cup 2018. The German team will play against Norway.
