The DG of Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and their radio counterpart could effectively find themselves in their posts indefinitely.
According to Capital, this follows a decision by MPs of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and the Media, without any debate and unanimously, to adopt an amendment to the Law on Radio and Television on its first reading.
It adds that the amendment was tabled by representatives of all parliamentary groups and supported by the Council for Electronic (CEM), with a member of the latter citing recent difficulties in the appointment of a DG for Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The mandate of Viara Ankova, the current DG of BNT, expires on August 1 and neither the government nor the broadcaster has expressed any willingness for a change in leadership.
