A football match from Spain’s women’s La Liga is to become the first competitive football match to be streamed over Facebook.
The match between Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club at Cerro del Espino is being broadcast live by Bein Sports and picked up by the social network.
It will be available globally without any geoblocking.
Earlier this month BT announced it would carry the Europa League and Champions League finals live on Facebook.
The Spanish move can be seen as either a step forward in video streaming – or a lack of willingness of the rights holders to part with the more lucrative men’s matches.
La Liga is working with Grabyo, the Thierry Henry-back internet company that has been providing a number of videostreams to the recently launched Facebook Live service.
