Mediaset makes Ultra HD move

May 18, 2016 09.32 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

premium-mediasetMediaset will launch Italy’s first Ultra HD sports channel on May 28, the day the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Athletic Madrid is played in Milan.

According to Corriera della Sera, it will be known as Mediaset Premium Sport 4K and distributed terrestrially on channel 391 on the Mediaset 1 multiplex.

It adds that the channel’s name holds out the hope that its coverage of the final will not be “an isolated incident” and other sports will also being featured.

To watch the final viewers will require a subscription to Mediaset Premium and within that the Champions League extension.

They will also need a Premium Cam as Mediaset Premium set-top boxes cannot receive 4k transmissions, along with a 4k TV set enabled for viewing HECV 50p content.
