Dutch public broadcaster NPO is set to reduce number of thematic channels to five on July 1, 2016.
Two channels, Humor TV (comedy) and NPO Doc (documentaries) will cease broadcasting, bringing the otal number of thematic channels to five.
The five channels remaining will be NPO Nieuws 24, a 24 hour rolling news channel; PO Politiek, a channel with live broadcasts from parliament and repeats of current affair programming and political talkshows.
NPO Cultura will offer documentaries, cultural programming, arts and music, and science.
NPO 101 with be the youth oriented channel with room for experiments.
The fifth channel will be split between NPO Best and NPO Zapp Xtra. From 20.00 hours, NPO Best will showcase the ‘best of Dutch tv” with the emphasis on older programming. NPO Zapp Xtra is a daytime kids channel.
