Romania’s National Audiovisual Council (CNA) has clarified an important point on must-carry rules for cable operators.
According to Mediafax, it decided at a public meeting held this Tuesday, May 10, that HD versions of SD channels do not have to be taken into account in the number of must-carry services offered by cable operators.
The Broadcasting Act requires the latter to account for 25% of their channel line-up.
However, this assumes that the content of the HD channels is identical to those in SD. If this is not the case, they have to be considered as separate channels.
The CNA’s decision was made following a request from RCS&RDS, Romania’s leading cable operator.
